Reporting Techniques – Introduction

Reporting Techniques

There are several reporting techniques that can be used to present OLAP data. These include the following:

•     Tabular Reports: This is the simplest form of reporting, displaying data in a table format.

•     Pivot Tables: A pivot table allows users to rearrange data in a cube to create a custom view of the data. Users can drag and drop dimensions and measures to create different perspectives.

•     Charts and Graphs: Charts and graphs are a visual way to represent data. They can be used to highlight trends, patterns, and anomalies in the data.

•     Dashboards: Dashboards provide an at-a-glance view of key performance indicators (KPIs). They can be customized to show data from multiple sources and provide real-time updates.

There are several reporting tools available for OLAP data, including the following:

•     Microsoft Excel: Excel has built-in support for OLAP data through its PivotTable and PivotChart features. It allows users to easily create reports and visualize OLAP data.

•     Tableau: Tableau is a popular data visualization tool that supports OLAP data sources. It provides a wide range of visualization options and allows users to create interactive reports.

•     Power BI: Power BI is a business intelligence tool that allows users to connect to OLAP data sources and create interactive reports and dashboards.

•     SAP BusinessObjects: SAP BusinessObjects is a suite of business intelligence tools that includes a reporting tool that supports OLAP data sources.

•     IBM Cognos Analytics: Cognos Analytics is an enterprise reporting tool that supports OLAP data sources. It provides a range of visualization and reporting options and supports complex data modeling.

•     Oracle BI: Oracle BI is a suite of business intelligence tools that includes a reporting tool that supports OLAP data sources.

•     Power BI: Power BI supports establishing relationships between data stored in different data sources, including OLAP cubes. When connecting to an OLAP cube, Power BI uses the Analysis Services connector to retrieve data and metadata from the cube.
